Support Operation Home ComfortTo The Members of Our Community, On 13 and 14 August 2006, the 2nd Battalion of the 10th Mountain Division from Fort Drum, New York, started service in Iraq. During this tour of duty our soldiers have endured many extreme hardships, as well as the separation from their families, friends and the loss of their comrades. They were originally scheduled to arrive home in August 2007, but have been extended in Iraq, for an additional 3 months. For the first month, upon returing, they must remain on Fort Drum for debriefing, medical examinations, administrative tasks, with no leaves of absence begin granted. During this period, the soldiers will be living in their barracks with each room furnished with the usual US Government issue wool blanket, 2 white sheets, a pillow case and a pillow. These are the same type of item that were available when not on duty in combat in Iraq. We are requesting your donation to provide an alternative. We wish to provide a greater measure of reassurance to these soldiers through a program called: "Operation Home Comfort". We are striving to collect and provide items to furnish individual bedding for 205 single or unmarried service members in the barracks, so that each room will have a "touch of home". Our goal is to provide a pleasent bedroom for each solder, bringing them comfort as the unwind from the extreme stresses of combate service. Making each and every room in essence a "comfortable harbor" for the soldiers, being as individual as the soldier resting there. My wife and I are also volunteering to assist in the preparations of each of these bedrooms. No matter what your feelings are on the war, our soldiers deserve our best efforts, for they have put their very best on the line for all of us, sadly some giving all. These soldiers come from all over the country, but many from our community here. My son, SSG Aaron Rombough is on his third tour of combat, having been awarded three Purple Hearts for wounds he has recieved in combat. He is one of the many fine soldiers currently serving. This would be a small token of appreciation to them and a very special welcome home. Donations may be made in the form of items from the included list and mailed directly to Fort Drum, or preferably as either a check or U.S. Postal Money Order ( to save on shipping costs), made out to "Operation Home Comfort" and mailed to either of the following addresses, with the local address prefered for local donations: Operation Home Comfort Or AmeriCU All donations are fully tax deductable. A framed Certificate of Appreciation will be mailed for all donations over $100.00. Please include your name, address, business card or letterhead with your donations. You may also, include a note or personal card, to be placed in the room you have sponsored. Donations in the form of gift cards for any amount, from any of the following merchants will also be gladly accepted: Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, inens & Things, K Mart, Sears, BJ's Warehouse and COSTCO. This wil allow purchases to be made in Watertown, New York reducing or elimating shipping costs of packages. Please see the following list of items requested for each room. the cost of each room is approximately $150.00. Sponsorship of rooms by individuals, merchants and organizations is greatly apprieciated and encouraged! The following items are needed to complete each room, gender neutral items are preferred such as solid colors, stripes, and bright relaxing colors: Pillow, Twin Sheets, Matching Pillow Case, Blanket, Quilt/Comfortere, Soap Dish, Bath Towel Set, Wash Cloth, Hand Towel, Soap, shaving cream, Tooth Brush, Tooth Paste, razors, mouthwash, deodorant, toothbrush holder.
